Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are the ages of patients you see?
    We routinely see patients ages 0-19 years old. Note the age for behavioural assessment is 2-19 years old while Developmental Delay is 0-19 years.
  • Why do I need a GP's referral?
    A referral from your GP enables you to see a specialist (our paediatricians) with Medicare benefits, and is valid for 12 months from when applied to your appointment. When the referral expires, going back to your GP for a referral asserts your requirement for ongoing treatment, also helps screen if there are new or unrelated medical conditions that have developed outside of your assessment. A relevant specialist's referral is applicable as well and is valid for 3 months.
  • What behavioural health conditions do you treat?
    We specialize in treating a spectrum of behavioral and mental health concerns, including, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, and behavioral disorders. Our comprehensive team prioritizes working with partners in your child’s care. We communicate with your child’s school, outside therapist, or anyone important to your care.
  • Do you accept private health insurance?
    We are diligently working to able to accept soon but do not currently accept insurance claiming. We provide receipts for submission to insurance and/ or Medicare.
  • Do you provide childhood vaccinations?
    No, we do not currently provide the service including Iron Infusion, B12 injection, and other injections.
  • Clinic Policy
    If you accept an appointment, you automatically accept our clinic policy, including fees, cancellation, medication request policies. If you wish to cancel your appointment, please ring us at least 48 hours prior to your appointment day. Failure to do so will incur a $100 (Non-Attendance Fee) which is not claimable to Medicare. ​ To reschedule appointments we will need a deposit of $150 which is non-refundable and non-transferrable. This is to ensure the appointments are prioritized for those who require it urgently.​ ​ These policies are in place to make sure families who need the assessments can get the help they need, we appreciate your understanding and patience in our process. ​ Existing patients who are undergoing active care with us can make an appointment over the phone with reception team. Please note cancellation and rescheduling policies still apply.
  • Do you offer medication management?
    Our experienced paediatricians will help you decide if your child needs medication management or support from other specialists to manage your condition.
  • Can I refill medication prescription without an appointment?
    Follow-up appointments either 6 months or yearly is necessary for medication prescription. It is important that you, your child, and your doctor meet regularly so that you can best meet developmental challenges. Authority scripts are to be done after the appointment. Some scripts cannot be done at the appointment day when it is not due yet. In this case, you can request for the script after your appointment. Email us with a medication request for this.
  • I lost the script, can I request the replacement script?
    All lost script requests needs to be submitted in writing. There will be reissue fees $20-$40 including penalties applies so we urge you to keep scripts safe.
  • Medication changes and reaction
    All the medication dosage changes / reaction or discussion of alternative medication needs the short review appointment. Please make a short review appointment with our reception team.
  • How do I make an appointment?
    Our doctors' books are closed indefinitely. Please refer to our "Appointments" page for waitlisting. Please note new referrals and new patient appointment requests cannot be made over the phone. Existing Patients who are undergoing active care will need to make follow-up appointments with our reception team. It is patient's discretion and responsibility to ensure necessary appointments are made.
  • Do you offer Video and Telehealth appointments?
    Video appointments for both Initial and follow-up appointments are available for patients who live in remote areas. For this service, we use SKYPE for video appointment unless specified otherwise.
  • How long are the appointments?
    Initial complex appointment would take 45-60 minutes while subsequent two appointments would be for up to 20-30mins. These three appointments are mandatory for assessment and management plan. After a finalized assessment, review appointments would take 15 to 30 mins. These appointments are for medication trials, adjustment and management plan reviews. Newborn 6-week check up would be take 15 - 30 mins. General appointments take up to 30 mins.
  • Are walk-in appointments accepted?
    No. We are an appointment-only service with a GP referral required to see any of the Paediatricians. We are not able to facilitate any walk-ins, emergencies or last minute requests.
  • Fees and Rebate
    The Smartpaeds Clinic is a private clinic and fees for services apply. All payments are due at the time of service provision. When you are offered an appointment we will inform you of our fee schedule. A Medicare rebate is available for every specialist (paediatrician) appointment, provided with a valid GP referral. The referral is mandatory to claim back from Medicare.
  • I need to cancel an appointment
    We send a courtesy SMS reminder one week prior to appointments and expect clients to remember their appointments and arrive on time. We understand sometimes appointments need to be changed or cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. Please allow 48 hours notice in order to offer appointments to other clients on the waiting list. If your appointment is on a Monday please note your request for cancellation needs to be made at least Thursday the week before. Missed appointments and late cancellations (less than 24 hours notice) will be subject to a cancellation fee $100. This charge cannot be claimed through Medicare or your Private Health fund. This fee can be waived if you have a medical certificate. If you reschedule after cancelling last minute we will also required a 50% deposit of your next appointment.
